My baby girl is 30 month old and she is not talking. She has few words here in there but that's about it. Other the talking part she is pretty good in everything else and even ahead in some other areas. She can ride the bike, dress and undress herself, etc. She understands everything I say to her and responds very well to commands, but refuse to talk. Whenever she needs something she either points to it or use baby language.

  1. I wouldn't worry exactly, but I would talk to her doctor. My mom didn't talk until she was six or so. She understood everything that was going on, and had a great vocabulary (she could think words, she just couldn't speak them) but she couldn't verbalize her thoughts.

Now she's completely brilliant, with an amazing vocabulary and near perfect grammar.

That being said, it could be a sign of Autism so it's always wise to talk to the doctor.

  2. if you did drugs when getting whoever pregnate its to be expected.

get it checked out by a doc

  3. Better ask a doctor.

My first son didn't talk much until about then, but the one behind him talks up a storm and he's barely 2.

  4. since she is so old you need to contact early intervention/birth to 3 in your area as soon as you can. They will do the speech evaluation for free, and she will get several months of therapy before she turns 3. They may also have you contact the local school system. With the severity of her speech delay she will probably qualify for special ed preschool too. After she turns 3 she would get her therapy through the school system.

My son was only saying about 10 words when he turned 2. he was just like your daughter with following directions and stuff like that. He was really frustrated that he could not make us understand him. We taught him some basic sign language to help him right away. It worked miracles for him. He did finally start talking after about 4 months in speech therapy but has not caught up yet. He still can be very hard to understand sometimes.

Please feel free to contact me for more help.

  5. I agree with the other guests, talk to your pediatrician about getting her evaluated by an expert.

  6. I would talk to her pediatrician and get a speech consultation.  My son is the same way, but him being in daycare really helped with him talking more now.

  7. i dont mean to be a bummer and i hardly doub this is the case but friends of mine had the same problem and they found out she was autistic. i dont wanna worry you in any way, cause i could be wrong and i dont want u to overreact, it could probably and most likely mean that your daughter is shy, and she doesnt feel like talking. she could be the opposite of a baby that talks way too much

  8. when she wants something, just cover your eyes and tell her to talk
