  1. Hi,

I can certainly relate to that!

I think the most important thing for her to start with is to get her baby into a good sleep routine.  I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and she could find that solves most of her baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!

  2. Oh my God yes.

When my twins were exactly 10 weeks old I went to the doctor and got zoloft for post partum depression because I was having such a hard time dealing with their never sleeping and the stress it was causing me.

10 weeks is hard because it's a long time to not get any rest.

She can't do anything except hang in there and know that soon enough her baby will start sleeping longer.  She can always bring her to bed with her and hope that helps.

I also swaddled my twins a lot for like 6 or 7 months.

  3. Ohhhh the joys of motherhood!!!!!! I have learned to deal with it, lots of sleepless nights, my daughter is 3 months and a couple days and she talks like mad all night long, so i don't go to sleep til 5am. All of us mothers can relate =P

  4. My son is 18 months and has never slept through the night. She is lucky she didn't have that! I doubt there is anything seriously wrong with him, it is probably teething. If it continues more than a couple weeks, she should probably take him to the doctor and make sure nothing is wrong.

  5. Tell her- "Welcome to Motherhood". It is just one of those things. There are those that are lucky enough to get ones that sleep thru the night. My Daughter didn't sleep thru the night until she was close to 4. Many many sleepness nights for us all. Now that she is 6 I am still trying to catch up on my lost sleep. It happens, but you know what? I wouldn't trade those late nights for anything else. I got to cuddle her during those times and I did enjoy it as tired as I was.

  6. I acquired respect for single parents when we had our baby...how do you do it on your own? omg. I took the nights and worked a full time day job, D had him all day on his own. Could the daddy take the nights or the days?

It worked out for us cos I could feed him in my sleep, but when D was woken up he couldn't get back to sleep, so he'd have been up all day and all night.

They sleep eventually, it just feels like it's never going to end. She's just got to hang in there.
