Now i understand why she is afraid, she didn't grow up with them like i did, she's never even seen one in real life. However i know how they are used for good and bad, and im sure the guy breaking in won't really care if my girlfriend is afraid or not of guns.

  1. simply tell her

"guns dont kill people, bad people kill people"

and also "think about protection what if i guy cam throught the door to kill us"

if that dosn't work if u really want tell her u got rid of ur gun but load it with a blank shell ask a friend to "break in" and come out and ur friend drops his "gun"(make sure his gun looks real not really real)

    good luck

  2. Is it fear or a reasonable response given the damage they can do to friend and foe alike?  Given the large numbers of girlfriends and wives who are shot by their lovers/husbands every year, I wouldn't want one in my house either.

  3. I did not grow up with guns and started dating this dude that packs heat everywhere we go. at first, i thought it was stupid and brought on trouble. if you don't have a gun then you wont resort to possibly shooting someone right? Well, he took me to the range...let me shoot, let me be in control, and realize that if needed it can save your life. Since I have bought my own...Bersa .380 very easy to shoot...fits in my hand very nice. I have the confidence that if I need to use it I can and right where I want to put it. I carry it in my car...in my big purse...its by my bed...or on the table while I watch tv. I have a little sign on my front door that says 'tresspassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again" Its your right!! Take it!!

  4. a necessary evil?

    what makes them necessary?

  5. 1 - Guns are NOT and evil. A gun is a tool the same as a hammer or screwdriver; or perhaps a better analogy would be a nail gun or a chain saw. Some are works of art and to some people, they are all works of art. Only the people that misuse them are evil.

2 - If your girlfriend is an intellectual and approaches things with an open mind, then explaining that guns are less dangerous than automobiles is one way. Showing her some of the stats on guns (I'm not researching them for you) may persuade her.

3 - Signing her up for a Gun safety course and some time on a gun range may bring her around too.

4 - I do NOT recommend the "We live in a crazy world, it may save our lives." approach. While this is not an invalid reason by any stretch of the imagination, what most woman hear is "Blah, blah, blah, CRAZY, blah, blah, blah, I want to shoot someone, blah, blah, blah." (Yea, I know that no one said anything about shooting someone, but that's what she'll hear!) Or they just hear the word "Crazy" and assume that you are referring to yourself. A much better approach to take is from the, "Guns are safe when safely used and properly handled and stored." If she accompanies you through a gun safety course, eve if you don’t need to take one, you will put her mind at ease, then she will learn just how safe a gun can be and perhaps, she won't be so afraid of them.  -HOWEVER-  If you are absolutely convinced that the "A gun can keep us safe."  Approach is for you, then try explaining it a way that she might better relate. Tell her it's the Condom principal. "It's better to not need one and have on then not have one and need it."

Note: If she lives or may live with you at some point, or even if she just spends a lot of time at your place, I highly recommend you put her through a gun safety course anyway. Not only with this help put her mind at ease, but she will be able to hand the firearm should ever the need arise. Not to mention it will show her, without you having to tell her, that you are a responsible gun owner and safety is paramount in your mind.

5 - If she is that anti-gun, then maybe she just isn’t right for you LOL ;-)

  6. You won't convince her unless she is open to the idea. If she's willing, you could start by asking her to go plinking with a 22, the way so many of us started learning about guns when we were kids. Fear of the unknown isn't easy or quick to overcome, so if you really want to take on the project, take it slow and easy.
