  1. *She could get both, more jail time and a fine. Rightfully so. She was just showing her a2s,instead of giving a legitimate reason for not serving.

  2. It is possible. If I were the judge, I would at least charge her for the cost of keeping her room and board. Maybe next time she gets a summons for jury duty she will not blow it off.

  3. Don't know all the ends and outs of what took place with your girlfriend that she's in jail, but why didn't she just say she never received notice. With mail service nowadays, there is alot of mail that get lost or isn't received for weeks. You know the mail service started out with good horses, now we have alot of Jack--- trying to do the same job.

    Good Luck to her.

  4. Anytime you get locked up there will be some sort of fine.  This helps offset the costs incurred for locking her up in the first place.

Yes it's ridiculous.  But 'tis life.

  5. fine if she is lucky

    might do some time

some places look on this very seriously

    all the best

  6. Hard to imagine she'll get a fine AND jail -- but possible.  And by the way, I'm glad to hear of some jurisdiction doing this.  It's a small price to pay for living in this society, and justice depends on it.

  7. Imprisonment is the penalty for not serving jury duty and fine might no longer be imposed.
