My girlfriend is saying she is pregnant with my child but wants £10,00 to keep it because of her debts?

My girlfiend is 6 weeks pregnant but because of debts her dad got in her name and defaulted on she says she need £10,000 so that she can afford to keep the baby!

I want a child but cant afford nowhere near that amount of money!

What should I do?

Buy a pregnancy test for her and then ask her to show you the result of it.

If she is not pregnant then dump her.

If she is shown to be pregnant then offer to buy a cot/pram etc for the baby, but do not give her any money and buy the items yourself.

If you are living in the UK she will get help such as income support, child tax credits, child benefit and milk tokens.

Why does she need £10, 000 to keep the baby? Sounds like your being conned by her into paying her debts. Women have babies in poorer circumstances than your girlfriend. She is a spendthrift, hoping you will get her out of it. Drop her!!

If you want to stay with this woman you should suggest you both pay the debt off together, make sure the debt actualy exists and that she is actually pregnant.  She really dosent sound like a very nice person to hold a baby to ransome like that, you should consider very carefully if you want to continue the relationship with her before making any decisions like this.

That's practically blackmail.

Talk to a lawyer or consult the law on what to do.

Just because she is pregnant doesn't mean she can demand you to pay off her debts.

You haven't seen the positive result of her test yet, so ask her to see it because she could be trying to con you (not that i am saying she is that type of person or anything it's just a possibility).

To be honest though i would be strict with her, just tell her if you had that kind of money you would help, but as she knows you have lost your job and haven't even got two pennies to rub together yourself.

I think asking someone who has just lost their job for £10.000 pound is a bit steep, baby or no baby. Good Luck

If your in the UK the only thing you are legally obliged to do is pay child support through the csa agency ,

maybe 10,00o over the next ten years is what you will be paying through the csa,

her debts are her problem at the end of the day,you only need to pay what the csa say i would contact them when the baby is born before you end up getting scammed

You'll find raising a child will cost more than that...  Are you planning to stay in this relationship?  I'm sure she has no legal claim on you for that money, but if you plan to stick together, the two of you will need to work out how TOGETHER you can both pay it off - it shouldn't be all you.
