i have two beautiful glass rings i wear all the time that i bought in venice.

i wore them today and its been really warm and i got home and washed my hands in freezing cold water like i always do except the bathroom was steamy as someone was in the bath.

then cos my rings got wet i took them off and put them on the middle of my bed (i dont like them sliding around my fingers wet)

then i literally went downstairs for 5 mins and when i got upstairs both had smashed although they had not come into contact with anything except silk sheets in my bed

the only explanation i can think of is the change of temperature drastically from hot to cold- but would it really make them snap in half the cut of the glass is very clean with no shards of glass

if not this what else could it be?

im so gutted cos i love those rings they hold memories for me-hope theyl glue back together

  1. Yeah, its the change in temp'.

I was washing a glass jar once in hot water....... but when I stooopidly rinsed it in cold water it more or less exploded !!!

P.S   you a hot mumma, so it probably was the change in temp.

  2. I think you're right.  Expansion or contraction of the outer and inner parts of the rings at different rates due to rapid temperature change could well have caused the fractures.

  3. First guy's right, that could be the only explanation.  Superglue should fix them quite well.  Works great with glass.

  4. Yeah it was the change in temperature. It happens with glass, and sometimes when the water isnt too hot or too cold to shatter it, you can see steam coming off the object, that works best when you have finished cooking and your pans and stuff are still hot. <practically useless and random information but I thought I would just share it with you anyway! :P :)
