Hi my name is shannon. I just moved to Arizona and I want to paint my wall. We bought a regular paint and when we began paintint the paint seperated ( imagine a non-stick pan, when you put water on it , it seperates into little bubble groups) into little bubbly sections. My wall has a glossy shine, and a not flat surface , it is kinda a bumpy texture( if you know anything about most arizona homes).

so my question is, what kind of paint do i need to make this stick!

HELP!

  1. You need to do preparation to make it stick!  You need to knock the gloss off the old paint.  You can do that with sand paper or by using a liquid product called liquid sandpaper.  You wipe it on and then off and it etches the glossy paint enough for your next coat to stick.

  2. You can use primer, or you can use a sander to rough up the surface.

If you use a sander, use at least 120 grit sand paper.

This will allow tiny imperfections that will allow the new paint to stick to. The scratches from sanding will be so small that the new paint will fill them in with no sign of them.

Make sure you wipe down the walls with a damp cloth when you're finished. The dust from the sanding will make the paint look terrible.

  3. you will need to apply primer first to provide a surface that your new paint wil stick to. paint adheres much better to primer than paint.

    KILZ is one of many.

    Hope that helps.
