My goal is to help Australia win as many games possible, says Michael Clarke - Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, the Australian skipper who scored an unbeaten double century on the second day of the ongoing Sydney Test against India, said his goal was to lead from the front and help the side win as many games as possible.
On day two of the ongoing second Test against India, Clarke added 204 runs to his overnight score of 47 runs remaining not out at 251 on Wednesday, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 not out at the other end on 55, as the hosts had clinched an intimidating first innings
lead of 291 runs with six wickets still in hand.
Speaking to media reporters at the day-end press conference on Wednesday, Clarke said he was hoping to have pleased the fans after leading the side from the front at Sydney and posting the highest ever score by an Australian against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
"Hopefully it helps me continue to earn respect. That's all I can do," said Clarke after his stupendous batting performance.
"Most importantly that helps me put this team in a position to win another Test match. That's our goal; that's my goal - to help Australia win as many games as we can,” he asserted.
Michael Clarke and the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 looked in their best form when Australia resumed batting 116 for 3 on the second day as the duo put the visiting attack to the sword and went on to add 288 runs to the scorecard for the 4th wicket
stand.
Ponting, who was not out on 44 on day one, finally ended his two-year Test century draught with an outstanding 134-run knock. The 37-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 batsman, who had earlier this year relinquished captaincy role in favour of Clarke following a poor run
of individual as well as team performances, had gone 34 innings without a century and there were increasing calls for him to make way for the young talent.
On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 has been in his peak form since taking over captaincy in April earlier this year and it was his 4th century as Australia team skipper. Clarke attributed his improved batting performance to his predecessor, Ponting.
"One of the things Punter taught me before I got the captaincy was as a leader you need to make sure you're standing up on the field; make sure you're leading from the front and scoring runs, and that's what I've tried to do since taking over the captaincy,"
said the home skipper.
Earlier the star studded Indian batting line-up once again capitulated against the James Pattinson-led Australian attack and could score only 191 runs in their first innings.
