Question:

My golden retriever doesn't want to walk with a leash...?

He's always been free to roam in my backyard. I can probably count the number of times he's been on a leash. He's like 2 years old.

Sometimes I put the leash on him and tie him to my basketball court to wash him. He's perfectly fine with it. However, if I put the leash on him and try to walk him he resists. He's stubborn too. Like I'll tug and he'll tug back. Or he lies on his side with dead weight.

  1. Cut up half a hot dog into 1/2 inch pieces.  As you praise him offer him one.  But don't offer every time you praise him for following at heal.  Just once every 20 or so times. Sporatic reinforcement will be enough to keep him wanting to do this with you.
