My goldfish's breathing is rapid and is swimming around very fast what's wrong?

It seems everytime I go near the tank one of my goldfish freaks out. It swims around in almost like a panic and then stops at the bottom of the tank breathing rapidly. If I stay away he seems fine. The fins are not clamped to it's body. I also have another goldfish in another tank that is always hidding and barely eats. It's obviously not growing like the rest. I seperated these fish thinking that's the reason why the small one was hiding and not growing. I've moved 2 them 4 X's in 6 weeks. The one freaking out is one of them. The two small one's stayed in the smaller tank. 1. I had a major disease break out in the main tank 2. the move back to the tank. 3. My son dropped a whole container of fish food into the tank. 4. the move back to the main tank. Do they do this in fear of me moving them again? If so, how long should I wait to move them to the 75 gallon I just got. They're in a 20 gal and 10 gal right now. largest fish is 2-2 1/2 in smallest is 1-1/2 in they are common goldfish

When my kids accidentally knocked the whole container of fish food in the goldfish tank, it took about 2 weeks before he died.  I did water changes and everything, but it was just too much on him.  Keep  changing the water and add a bit of Stress Coat into the tank. I wouldn't move them again until they start moving around a bit better.  Not sure how long that will take, though.

Well, that whole jar of food,

has caused an amonia spike in your tank which is suffocating your gold fish,i suggest you do a 50% water change right now and clean the filters in the tank water you take out.Also don't use chemicals, follow up daily with 20% water changes until the water is pristine.

If you don't do this now, your fish will die.In fact i doubt that one that is freaking out will make it, its already sick hence the heavy breathing.Gold fish already make huge amounts of ammonia by pooping and secretion through their skin.This is why gravel vacuuming the pebbles in your tank is so important.But clean it up and good luck, in future if this happens ,get the food out emedietly and do water changes to get rid of the polluted water.
