My goldfish is about 6inches long, the rock is about 1.5cm long and 1cm wide. He got it in his mouth and he has been trying to get it out but he can't, any suggestions?

  1. Lots of fish will carry a piece of gravel around with them...sometimes for days. I have cichlids and they do this as if it's their toy...if any other cichlid gets at it they get aggressive. So basicly I wouldn't worry unless it's deterring their health. As long as the fish swims fine, doesn't seem irritated, and can eat don't worry. If it's really stuck and it's affecting the fish then catch the fish in a large net, but don't take it out of the water. Leave the top just out so it can't swim away, then attempt to take the rock out yourself. I don't recommend tweezers as they can scratch the fish. however, if your fish thought that gravel was somewhat of a possesion he may select another piece and put it back in his mouth so good luck with dealling with that.

  2. get a pair of tweezers and pull it out! if not succesful, see a vet

  3. If you can try to remove it with your hands. If you can get a hold of the fish very gently you might be able to pull the rock out. I suppose you could even try using a net to catch the goldfish and then gently pry the stone out. I would definitely go get some different substrate for your tank, just to be on the safe side.

  4. pull it then quarantine it for few days with rocksalt and good aeration.

  5. Use a small stick, make sure it's blunt so as not to cut your fish. If your lucky he'll attempt to put his mouth around it like food so you can pop it out. If not, try putting him in a small container in which he won't be able to move around too much and try to maneuver it into his mouth to pop the rock out. It's important to get it out as your fish may not be able to eat properly. If you can't do it yourself give the vet a call. Good luck!

You should try not to touch the fish as it may be harmful.
