Ok I have 3 goldfish, one is a orange goldfish and the other two are gold one, sadly I had another orange goldfish but it passed away today, I hope it can forgive me if I done something wrong, Anyways the orange one is so hyper its swims around very fast since I put it in the new tank.

Whats wrong with it?

  1. have you done a water test? perhaps the ph was higher or lower in the pet store. if its constantly zipping around, possibly even brushing against things it sounds like it might be upset at the new water conditions.can be very painful for fish! most pet stores do free water testing now if you dont have the test kits. i suggest a full check ph nitrates ammonia levels etc particularly as one of your fish has passed away already!

    good luck

  2. Fish can react two different ways when you introduce them to their new home.Firstly it might zip around going hyper like yours or it will be kind of lazy doing nothing really. The first one is better!!!!

    Good Luck

  3. Hey There,

Fish have 2 ways they will go when they are introduced to a new tank.  1.  They will be very still and hide.  Not alot of movement etc.  They are sussing out the tank, watching who else is in there with them.  When he/she is comfortable he/she will move around more and look more relaxed.  2.  Erratic swimming.  Basically your fish is freaking out from the move.  2 ways to calm him/her down.  Put food in the tank to keep the other fish occupied as to not stress them out.  Your new fish may eat it also and turn the lights out for an hour or 2.  This should calm him/her down.

    Hope this helps :-)

  4. exactly the same thing happened to mine - one died and the other swam frantically round the tank - i think it was looking for the other fish - so we bought a new goldfish put it in for him and instantly he chilled out and they follow each other round the tank and are best friends now - i would suggest getting him a friend im sure you will notice an instant improvement.

  5. well it is greving the loss of the other one or maybe it new it ws goin 2 die.

  6. He is nervous with his new home.  He should settle down soon.

Just rememer after adding fish to your aquarium test the water the next day to ensure the ammonia hasn't spiked.

You can tell males and females (depending on your type) the males are longer and thinner bodied than the females of the same.  The vent opening on the females is usually elongated and larger than the males.  If observing them from the top you will see the females are "wider".  although viewing them thru the glas they all look "the same"  Usually how they swim as well.  Males make sharper, quicker movements and turns where the female is more of a lethargic swimmer
