Okay, i got me a little goldfish about five months ago. His color is not orange anymore, but whiteish/yellowish. I feed him tetrafin/nutrifin, use clean water (tap but I add this solution made for tap water). Why is he NOT orange?

  1. It is most likely because of the size of the tank. I am guessing he is in a bowl, or other small tank. Goldfish need about a 15 gallon tank when they are young, and a 20 gallon when they are older. They get large even though they may seem little now. My guess is he has lost colour because of stress or ammonia in the tank (which can lead to stress). Goldfish p**p a lot, and fish p**p has ammonia in it, this is very, very bad for fish. Too much will make them stressed and eventually die. Change the water of the tank, and get a bigger tank as soon as possible. If you have a large tank, check the water quality.

  2. nah some breed do fade in colors since the goldfish is indoor when introduced back outdoors will go back to its bright orange or black colors.

  3. If you leave a goldfish in the dark for around 3 months, it will turn from orange to white.

It wont harm the fish, but it's recommended that you have a suitable light on your tank, that's on for at least 8 hours a day, no more than 12.

  4. Fish turn colors when they are stressed, kind of a sign of protest in a way. Have to changed lighting? Tanks, Rock/gravel, food?

Something must be stressing him, this can be serious because the more the fish is stressed, the less they produce a slime coating, which helps them fight off some disease.

You may want to go out and buy some Aquarium Salts. It's away good to have on hand anyway, but it'll help produce a slime coating, promote healthy gill function, and is safe for fresh water fish.

    Just read the directions.

    Good luck.

  5. If you just have regular salt, like kosher salt, thats good if you dont want to buy aquarium salt

  6. They can change colors due to poor lighting or different lighting.

  7. there all wrong there's a type of goldfish that changes from orange to gray

  8. he's probably just getting old.

  9. Hi Luckieangel, Goldfish have extremely unstable pigmentation which means they can turn from & to a multitude of colours at any time including grey, white, silver, brown, olive, yellow, red, orange, black & gold. Or........they may never change & remain one colour or have large patches of different colours like a Koi, this is particularly so of Comets.

It has nothing to do with diet, nutrition, age, tank size, stress, lighting or water quality & is completely natural.
