is it right to use your shoulders right away on your takeaway?coz whenever i use my arms to initiate my backswing, most of the time my downswing gets f'd up. its either i hit it to fat or hook the ball. And using your shoulders on your takeaway just makes it feel more smooth.

  1. Your first move away from the ball is to turn your left shoulder if you're a right handed golfer. Do not break the triangle formed by your two shoulders and your grip until past your hips.

Rotate your shoulders with the clubface moving straight back and as far down the target line as possible. At hips high the top of the clubhead it pointing straight up (the imaginary line from the clubface is parallet to the ground)

  2. Think of your arms as the extension of the club to attach it to your body core, so your take away should be the rotation of your shoulders and not your arms.

Having said that, the initial take away is a level movement of the club head moving away from the ball.   Imagine you have a straight line parallel to your stance behind the ball, your take away should follow that line for as long as you can without shifting your body or head sideways.   The club will naturally move upwards if you do this.

Yes, take away and up-swing effects your down swing somewhat, but you're probably swinging on a wrong swing plane to cause your downswing to be messed up.  Regardless of how you get the club to the top of your swing, it should be parallel to the ground, pointing at the target, left arm straight (for right handed golfers) and body properly coiled.  Think of dropping the club's butt end towards the ground on your initial down-swing, once the club is half way down, think of 'chopping' a hole (divot) under the ball, upon contact with the ball, left your club head continue flying FORWARD towards the target and let the momemtum of the swing bring the club back around your left side.

Do this in slow motion and get the feel of it first before start hitting balls.  Also don't try to kill the ball, let the natural swing of the club do it's job, you just concentrate on swinging properly.

  3. The best way to adjust your swing is by putting a towel under your arm pits, Put one end of each under your arm pits and swing, If the towel falls, it means that you are moving your elbows apart in your swing.  About the take away...check your hand grip....go to www.golfchannel.com for tips how to get a great grip..

  4. Burt C suggests a great drill that helps keep the shape of your back swing and ensures this position is maintained throughout the down swing and follow through. A flying elbow can lead to hitting fat and thin shots as there is inconsistency in the takeaway and downswing. Practise this drill by tucking a towell under you arm pits and if the towell stays there especially under you right arm throughout the swing then you will be building the basis of a sound golf swing.

  5. To simplify this.....your shoulders and arms should turn as a unit.

  6. its all in your forearms...at 9 oclock, the club should be at a 90 degree angle...the just keep the angle to the top of the swing, at 9 oclock, flip the forearms...their are alot of ways 2 swing a club, but the pros *ei:tiger, phil, sergio, vjay, adam scott* do this 2 get more power and cosistancy...it took me 3 weeks 2 get the motion down, so go hit the range xD...after 3 weeks i broke 90 with this methoid, theirs nothing natural about a golf swing

  7. A good tip on take away is to "drag" the club as you take it back until you naturally have to lift it. This creates a good rotation at take away and keeps the club level instead of flailing out.
