  1. You are entitled to a visa for the UK, and you can obtain UK nationality through naturalisation. At this point you will obtain a UK passport and all the associated rights of movement and employment within the EU. Until then you'd still need to apply for visas on your Australian passport to be able to visit or work in other EU countries. Given where you have posted this, if you were hoping to move directly to France then I'm afraid your grandfather doesn't do you any good.

  2. Commonwealth nationals who have a grandparent who was born in the UK may enter the UK for a period of five years. The main criteria are that you are able to support yourself without access to public funds and are willing and able to work., it is advantageous but not necessary to have a firm offer of employment in the UK.

After 5 years continuous stay in the UK on an Ancestry visa you may apply for permanent residency.

  3. Don't know if this helps. A South African friend got an Irish passport because of his Irish grandmother and moved here. Here had to get her details from Eire. That was in the days of apartheid though.

  4. The UK only gives citizenship to first generation emigrants. However, if your grandfather was born anywhere on the island of Ireland, even Northern Ireland, then you can apply for an Irish passport.

Btw, there is no such thing as an EU passport, only passports for each member state. We are not a federation yet.

  5. No. But you can apply for a 4 year visa, come and live over here and after the 4 years apply for residency
