My grandmother said she saw a product on Tv that converted VHS into DVD at home, is there such thing??

  1. Yes but the advertising is misleading. What isn't clear is that on copyrighten VHS tapes the Macrovision encoding on the tape messes up the picture and audio. It is intended to record home videos and not Hollywood movies.


  2. Besides the vhs/dvd recorder combos, Yes,  there is such a devise, it is a capture card you can use with your computer and a VCR.

    There are two version, either an internal card, which must be installed in your computer or an external card that attaches via a usb cable to your computer and composite cables to the VCR.

    There are many different brand, personally I use an ADS external capture unit, and the accompaning software,  which is very easy to use and never encounters any macrovision

    But keep in mind that the file produced is fairly large (about 2-4 gb for a movie) so you will need another program like the freeware, AutoGk, to reduce the size to something more within reason. This program is also fairly easy to use.

  3. yes,i do not remember what the thing is called but they sell it @ radioshack.i was there today to buy a new wireless mouse and i saw the converter piece that you are speaking of.

    You can buy a DVD recorder VCR combo at Circuit City, Best Buy, Wal-Mart etc...

  6. Yes I saw a vcr/dvd combo in the Big Lot Ad for Christmas special for  29.95 wow what a deal.
