My grandparents came from Hungary & Austria in the early 1900's. GDad Steven FERENCE. GMom Katherine Stanko.

My Gdad's birth certificate is in Hungarian. Can anyone translate or tell me of the gparents history? This is my fathers side. I know almost nothing about by grandparents.

    Your document from his birth is a definite treasure, most of us would kill for.  *smile*  Genevieves mom is very experienced with Eastern Europe info.  If you don't have a scanner at home, you can take it to walmart or such, and scan like a photo.. then once you find someone who speaks Hungarian, you can email the image.

    I did find Steve and Katherine (Katy) in 1900, apparently just married?  btw, they are living with John Ference, who is 2 yrs older than Steve. Brother??

  3. Since you did not say what  area of the country you are in..my first suggestion would be to locate the oldest Catholic Church in your area....I would ask if any Hungarian parishioners or Hungarian Social Societies i the area.

    Sure other will answer with all the genealogy sites on  line to begin your search with just the surname.
