  1. hi mate

the nvidia forceware driver 175.19 is the latest driver release from nvidia, however i have found this driver still a bit unstable, especially with legacy graphic cards like the geforce fx and 6 series cards

the idea behind driver updates is to improve the performance and stability of your graphic card, however in your case this has obviously not happened

this may be for many reasons, for example when installing your forceware driver allways disable your anti-virus software as this can affect the smooth installation of the forceware driver, another reason is downloading the driver using download managers, this is because download managers work by splitting the file(s) into several parts and then joining them back together when finished, however this can sometimes damage or corrupt the forceware driver and make it unusable

you dont have to use the latest drivers,my advice is try a few drivers from the nvidia driver archive and find one that works ok,off hand i would recommend the 94.24 forceware driver ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_94... is a very stable driver and also includes the older nvidia control panel which in my opinion is much better than the new style control panel

also make sure you remove your current forceware driver from your hard drive before installing your new driver, you can also use a program called "driver cleaner" avalible from http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php...

this will clean any old files regarding your old drivers as some of the old driver files can conflict with your new driver

driver cleaner works with both nvidia and ati gpu,s,however make sure you read the "read me" files before using driver clenaer

                  any problems let me know

                         good luck mate    !

  2. based on what the guy above said you should just go to control panel or device manager and rollback to the previous driver. i've found that with computers newer is'nt always better. if it aint broke don't fix it.
