My great grandmother had a will and nobody got the money which department should i go to to claim the money?

my great grandmother died in 1977 and nobody claim her estate and well i need to know what department i should go to to claim her estate/money

  1. There is no "department".  If your Great Grandmother had a will in 1977, then there may have been a probate.  You would have to check the probate court records for the county in which she died.  However, if there was a probate, then there was an executor, and if there was an executor then the executor would/ should have already distributed her estate.  You may try the Unclaimed Property Office for your state.  If you go to the Web site for the state that she died in and check through the Treasurer's Office for that state.


  2. How do you know that "nobody got the money" after 31 years?

  3. Was the will brought up in the Probate Court, you can check with them if you have a copy of the will just so when you call you know what you are talking about, w/o it you are "dead in the water"
