I've been trying to figure if I really am of Jewish descent, if only my great grandmother was Jewish and she had my grandfather who then had my mother, does that make me Jewish? And I'm a female?

  1. No, it's supposed to go down the female line, if your grandfather was not Jewish then neither are you.

  2. If your Grandmother was Jewish, then the lineage is unbroken or, if she wasn't but, converted then your lineage is Jewish.  However, Choose for yourself.

  3. my jewish grandfather immigrated here from russia, he then married a non jew and had my mom, she married a nonjew and had me, i consider myself of jewish descent even though i dont practice judiasm.

  4. Ethnically you are Jewish if your culture is consistent with the Jewish community experience.

    You are Jewish by blood

I believe an Orthodox Jew would say that if your father's mother was Jewish, he would be Jewish, but if your mother was not, you would not be Jewish.

In terms of beliefs, you are Jewish if that is what belief you practice.  Jesus is Jewish by blood, ethnicity and his maternal line, and is the way, the truth and the life. I hope you will learn more about Him and His forgiveness leading to eternal life!

    Be well

  5. There is jewish the race and jewish the religion. Sounds like you are jewish the race. If I remember correctly, they generally track geneology on the mother's side.

  6. According to Orthodox and Conservative Judaism, a Jew is defined by the mother.  If your grandfather's wife wasn't Jewish then your mother isn't Jewish and therefore you aren't.

Now the Reform Jews view it differently.

You can proudly say you have Jewish heritage.

  7. well yes you are of jewish decent but as to if you are jewish only you can answer that for being jewish is a religion and not a race...so what religion do you place your faith in?

  8. you are of jewish descent but you are only jewish if you believe what jewish people do.

  9. from my understanding the Jewish faith is passed down from the mother .. so had your great-grandmother had a daughter who was your mother's mother .. then you would definitely be considered Jewish ....

In n**i Germany you most certainly would have been classed as being Jewish....... regardless of your grandfather....

If you want to be jewish then you can be....

  10. Simple really, you are descended from someone who followed the Jewish faith, if you do not follow the Jewish faith, then you are not Jewish, Judaism is a religion, there is no such thing as a Jewish race.
