i feel so sorry for her;

she has a hearing aid but still struggles to hear many things, except for one on one conversation and certain programmes with clear speakers.

she used to love to read

which she cannot anymore

apart from my mother and i visiting her she just sits in her flat, an occasionally listens to the radio.

i do as much as i can to help her but i dont know what to do,

i take her out into her garden but she cannot walk very far and at most she can go maybe 5 minutes.

i bought her audio books but she couldnt work out how to use the tape machine. and i said i would do it for her but she simply said no theres no point.

she seems to be getting more and more depressed by the day as she has nothing to do, except for my company, yet i dont know what to suggest to help her? she has little friends, and her best friend recently died which has depressed her even further.

do you have any ideas/suggestions on what she can do to atleast pass her time, as she can no longer read or even hear most tv or radio programmes.

thank you

  1. I suggest you see that she gets the proper medical attention.  There is treatment for depression.

    There is training available for adults who become blind.  She can learn Braille, so she can still read.

    She can see an audiologist.  There may be hearing aids or surgery that can help.

    And how about your local senior citizen center?  Can they provide any activities?
