Spain does not recognise dual citizenship, though the united does. If your parents were Americans in Spain and you were born there, you would not have sworn an oath to the united states, you would have gotten your citizenship automatically and you would have a Spanish birth certificate making you automatically Spaniard.

In your case, if you could prove ancestry, you could spanish nationality, but they do draft for military service and you could possibly lose your American citizenship if they make you swear an oath to Spain.

Usually, for a EU member country, you have to have one or two grandparents to have been a Spanish citizen.

Most countries in the world require one parent.

You are about three to four generations too late.

Londonhawks answer is partially correct, except that there is no longer obligatory military service in Spain. The draft dissapeared several years ago. (1995 if I remember correctly) The spanish armed forces are now all career people.

You might still lose your U.S. citizenship though, but you should go to your local authorities to check out how that could possibly happen..
