My green tea turned brown?

i made some green tea and it actually turned brown when i added sugar

is that a problem.......

  2. that's kind of odd.  I do know for a fact that some green tea is actually not green to begin with.  some actually brew kinda brownish.   are you sure it was only after you added the sugar?  was it green after you brewed it?  what kind of tea was it, and what kind of sugar was it.  sorry i'm just curious.

  4. That will happen sometimes to some green teas. It doesn't really have much to do with the sugar. It is the warm water that quickly converts some of the chlorophyll in the green tea (that's what gives it the green color) to other substances that have a brownish appearance. It is harmless, but it is most common with tea in bags, which is one of the reasons most tea lovers prefer loose leaf tea.
