The prices are just crazy. 8-9 dollars for a small 6 pack of tomatoes? 6 dollars for cooking oil? Its the only store within about 20 miles, but they shouldnt have the right to do this. Anyone I can alert?

  1. The only thing you can do is not shop there.  Drive a little further to a more reasonably priced store and buy in bulk.  Take coolers with you to keep the frozen and refrigerated stuff cold.  Also consider buying meats in bulk through a butcher as you can often get good deals and the specific cuts of meat you want rather than what you have to settle for at the meat counter.

  2. lots of  food can be bought on line on amazon.com and they have free shipping right to your door over $25.00.

there is even shelf stable milk. (parmalait)

there is a place called angel food minestries that has great deals on fresh food.

    http://www.angelfoodministries.com/

    if you live near them.

    farmers markets?

    local CSA's

  3. No...nothing youcan do. Maybe you can find a cheaper market and make the trip once/twiceamonth.   Perhaps you need to examine your eating habits...are you buying to much processed food. Processed foods/canned foods are expensive. Shop in bulk and split the cost with a friend...use coupons..plan a menu around items that are on sale. Cheap cuts of meat are great grilled or marinated.

  4. well listen do to the high cost of transportation ($4.95 diesel used for trucks)

the prices of food is going up and any type oil or shortening is up drastically for at least another year

especially because all the farmers switched from their regular crop to corn because the government was paying them more for corn then usual crop they didn't grow enough of things like soybean oil and wheat

  5. OMG i just went shopping today and spent 120.00 and came home with NOTHING...5 little bags!!!!! Sh*t! What the heck is going on!!!!!!! I only have 3-4 days worth of food for 120.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I won't take credit for this answer, but this is in accordance to the USDA:

"In 2008, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all food is projected to increase 4.5 to 5.5 percent, as retailers continue to pass on higher commodity and energy costs to consumers in the form of higher retail prices. The main factors behind higher food commodity costs include stronger global demand for food, increased U.S. agricultural exports resulting from stronger demand and a weaker dollar, weather-related production problems in some areas of the world, and the increased use of some food commodities, such as corn, for bioenergy uses."

Don't get too heated over this. It's not just you. Here, we're paying almost $4-5 for a gallon of milk.

As for a cheap-solution, you could start growing a garden. You could grow tomatoes and save that $8-9. Also, there are online grocery stores. I've found myself using that a few times for many things. Using online grocery stores will also save you the gas money in having to travel to the store and back and since they deal wholesale, you could get the food cheaper.

    Best of luck to you.

  7. I don't know but you can always look for coupons. Coupons are great for people with tight budgets.

  8. walmart for everything but meats. its worth it! i shop @ one store & spend 60 on 3 bags and go to walmart and get the same things for 20 =)
