My guinea pig is about 2.5/3 yrs old. She has had one 2 litters before (one before i got her and one after), she had her last litter in september 06. Now she has accidently got pregnant again. She is not overweight and she is healthy. With such a gap between pregnancies should i expect any problems?

  1. Can you give me links of the pictures of her and the last litter she had.

  2. Your only problem will be that after a certain time, a cavy's pelvis fuses making it potentially dangerous to have babies. If this does happen and your cavy becomes pregnant you should see a doctor tosee if there's anything you can do. At her age this could have already happened, but it may still be too early. Good luck!

  3. i dont think it would be huge but take caution

  4. hey! i dont think it should be a problem. as long as you give her some extra vitamin C since the babies will be eating it up inside her. and make sure she gets rest, and when she gets to 7 to 8 to 9 weeks of being pregnat it is best to let her be and dont handle her too much. if you have any further questions, it is preobly better to refer to a vet. :) hope this helps!

  5. there's always a chance of problems.  she's older now and the risks involved in a pregnancy are much higher.  once is an accident.  twice is your fault.  either have your male neutered or make sure they are permanently separated.

best to check with your vet on what to expect and look for in signs of distress.

  6. no most pigs are like that and that sometimes normal.

  7. No she should be fine. You may want to make sure she doesn't get pregnant after she turns 5 because then she may be to old to properly care for her babies.

  8. Yes, you should always anticipate problems. She is too old to breed again.
