  2. It depends on what you mean by biting.

Growing up I had 3 different guinea pigs. They all bit me in play, more like a nibble the kind a puppy will do when playing. It didn't hurt.

But, when I first got them & they were scared they'd bite out fear. One time while moving to a new house my guinea pigs were scared and in a panic. Even my favorite one who was usually VERY calm. I reached down to pet them to let them know they were ok and one of my guinea pigs bit me on the hand. This out of fear and more own fault. Well, the bite hit and out came a gusher! I mean it was like someone had a powerful water gun. It hit a vain! To this day more than 18yrs later I have a scar. I got I think 5 stitches, but the scar is much worse than the pain was.

So guinea pigs bite for different reason. If it is our fear I'd suggest getting a book on them and it should tell you how to introduce them to you kindly.

What I did was pick mine up in a small but large enough coffee can. I'd clean it out and put in their cage. Once they would calmly climb in it I'd gently pick it up and set it down on the floor between my legs with books stacked up all around me so they couldn't get loose. They'd sniff around and slowly come up and then smell around me. This way they learned my smell. I wouldn't touch them though. If I'd move they run back to the can. I'd pick it up after a bit and put them back in their cage.

Do this for several days and maybe a week they'll learn your smell. Slowly their learn to trust you.

I had Sullivan for almost 3yrs. I LOVED him so much. I cried so hard when I came home to find him dead. I cried more than when my dog had died. I still miss him.

  3. Do you ever notice him itching? Often times guinea pigs biting when they're being pet is one of the first signs that they have mites. Mites can be caught at a petstore and may lie dormant for up to a year before they begin to show signs. He's biting you because it hurts him when you pet him, because the mange mites are very painful and in the end fatal. Get him to an exotics vet immediately to begin treatment. Make sure he is only treated with either Ivermectin or Revolution.

  4. Sounds like he has mites http://www.cavyspirit.com/biting.htm

  5.      rat traps do a great job of taking care of abusive pets then you can git a pet that loves you so much that you will push them away

  6. the only time I've heard of one biting, and granted there are other posibilities, was when their hands smelled like food...  make sure you clean your hands with a non scented soap before handeling your pet.  otherwise..it could be ill...a boy could become aggressive if he feels he wants to mate..not getting any can make anyone grumpy.  There might be a spot on his back that hurts him too.

  7. Well, maybe you just got him.

So it takes time for a relationship to form.

Try leaving him alone for a few hours, then gently feeding him or something.
