Question:

My guinea pig has eaten a 'toxic plant' - What should I do?!?

Yesterday, my guinea pig started eating a leaf from a morning glory plant, I took it off her as soon as I saw that she was doing it (she ate less than half of the leaf.) Today, she is a bit quiet, and acting different than her normal self, she's still eating a bit. I've put her in their run but she's not running around as much as normal. I have found out today on the internet that morning glory is toxic to guinea pigs. I am very worried,

is there anything I can do?

How much do they have to eat of it for it to be toxic?

At what point should I take her to the vet's?

Thank you for any answer.

  1. take it to the docter

  2. take her to the vet right away she might die if you don't

  3. It would appear seeds and roots are the main hazard (toxicity to many animals).

A day ago, it's probably too late to treat if it did ingest significant poisons, though vetinary advice may be worth seeking. Not sure that paying for it to be in for "observation" would be worth it, as it's likely the only thing that could be observed is "It's dead" or "it's alive" - some vets can be too keen to get observation fees.

  4. maybe umm let me think now!

  5. take her now !

  6. The seeds of morning glory are substantial hallucinogens - however, the leaves carry typically no traceable amount of the toxin. I bet your guinea pig will be fine but if it appears to lose coordination or act very unusual then the best course of action is contacting a vet.

  7. NOW!

  8. Wooee i think you need to take her now the vet will probally get her some kinda stuff to get it out of her sistim!

    Good Luck!

  9. go to the vet right away, think how guilty you would feel if your little friend *with regrets* died, she probably wont but better safe that sorry!

  10. It would be very good to take her now, but until you do, try forcing her to drink a little water with vitimans in it, and see if you can flush it out of her system just try that about every hour.

  11. Go to the vet right now!!!
