My guinea pig won't move. How can I get her to eat/drink?

I bought a guinea pig yesterday from an animal auction. When I brought it home, I found that it was too small for the cage I had, and could escape through the bars. So i put her in her box with a small cup of water and some rabbit pellets. Today, I went to Walmart and purchased and adequate cage, guinea pig food, an edible wooden hiding spot, water bottle, and hay feeder. Her cage is set up nicely, but she won't explore it. It may have been around 24 hours that she's gone without proper food and water, and I would feel so much better if she'd drink.. but she won't come out from underneath the hay feeder. She isn't stuck, just scared? What can I do?

  1. That's completely normal. I just adopted a 'brother' for my 3 month old male guinea pig. I named the new guinea pig bubba, lol. Bubba has stayed in one spot. Tries to venture out but gets spooked in his new big cage. Give it time. It'll come around.
