My guinea pig wont eat his proper food and drink his water. he will eat lettuce, hay and cuecumber.?

im taking him to the vet next week but i wondered why this is happening. his front teeth look fine and he is recoving from a bug but what causes him to not eat and drink

U R NOT ment to feed a GPig lettice as its poisoners it will make them sick nore are u ment to feed them cabbidge u should be able to buy a GPig book on guidelines of what you can and should not feed them so that could be what is wrong with him hun. as i done research on this b4 getting my female good luck

mine always prefered fresh stuff to dry food,apple,carrot,grass and dandylion leaves he was spoiled too. R.I.P Muffy

Do you have vitamins in the water? Sometimes they wont drink it if you put those vitamin C drops in. If hes eating the veggies thats good. Maybe he just doesn't like the pellets. Mine get finicky sometimes.

first of all i wanna say gr8!!! you have a guinea pig!! i have 1 too, its had babies, 3 of them, so i have quite alot of knowledge on them

the fact that he is not eating proper food and drink is because he is still trying to fully recover from his bug. its brilliant that he is still eating letuce though!! its verry good for guinea pigs for many reasons!! and is not poisonious in any way at all!!!

so don't worry, keep giving him the food and drink he is eating, give him plenty of attention and he'll be fine!!!

even if the front teeth are OK, the molars may need to be filed down

Have you changed his food? He may just not like it. You're right to be taking him to the vets, but I would just try taking away the cucumber and lettuce for a night to see if he eats his food and drinks. He's probably getting a lot of moisture from the lettuce etc. so won't be drinking much. But yes, take him to the vets as soon as you can to get him checked out.

well if lettuce and cucumber is good for him, then i would just keep feeding him juicy lettuce until you take him to the vet because if he won't eat and drink unless if its lettuce hay and cucumber then just feed it juicy lettuce and cucumber.

I would feed him hagus... lettus isnt enough nutrients for survival... nor is hay or cuecumbers.

it might be tht he is still recovering from the bug, or if the vet gave him meds maybe they upset his stomach when he eat his proper food and drinks water. whatevr the answer im sure the vet will find it. Wish him the best i hope he feels tremendously better soon.
