the only way we can get her to eat is putting yogurt in a sirenge and making her eat it. We took her to the vet and they gave her some medicine. Its been over 2 weeks and she still wont eat or drink. We took her back to the vet and he gave us a different medicine. Now shes starting to lose the hair on her stomach. does anyone know why?

  1. Yogurt is bad for them. Have you read http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.h... ?

You need to find the reason she is not eating. Did the vet check her teeth or take any x rays or something?

  2. are u taking her to an exotic animal specialist? she needs to get treatment when guinea pigs dont eat or drink it really not a good sign, how old is she? the hair lose COULD BE a side effect of the meds or maybe bec shes not getting all the nutrients she needs try taking her to another vet, a specialist.  good luck

  3. How long have you had her?

If you just got her, she may be refusing to eat a different type of food you're providing for her.  Try to go back to the pet store you got her and buy the exact same food they feed their piggies.

Ask the vet to check her teeth.  She may not be refusing to eat, she might not be able to at all!!  If her teeth are too long, she won't be able to eat or drink anything and this could be the case.  Ask them to file them down a little.

Losing hair is never a good sign.  I think you should stop the medicine.  Obviously it's doing a lot more harm than good.  I don't think yogurt is really all that good for piggies either..  I mean, the vet might have recommended it, but for long term uses, I don't think it'd be very good considering all the dairy and such.

Try offering your piggy some baby carrots, lettuce (not iceburg lettuce!), cucumbers, etc.  She might try to eat something different.  If she won't eat while you're there, leave her alone and see if she'll eat then.  If she tries to eat or whatnot while you're there, watch her and see what she is doing.  If she keeps dropping the food, drooling, etc that's a sign her teeth have grown too long.

  4. take her to the same vet and talk to him

  5. you need to call the vet and tell them again how severe this illness is!

  6. there are many reasons for this maybe she is trying to tell you something? or maybe she wants a friend. or more likely she is super sick! don't fret i have a  guinea pig too. when i got him he had namona and would not eat or drink you just have to keep your vet informed and babe her like she is a daughter like hold her and never give up she might have scurvy do you feed her vitamin c every day? tell me how it goes my email is dewdul@yahoo.com!
