I feed my guineas 2-3 times a day, they always have enough hay and water but every meal time they are expecting romaine lettuce! Every time i take their food bowl out they give me a loud chorus of squeaks but If i return without the lettuce they stop squeaking and won't eat anything else in their bowl for ages! It makes me feel well bad that i didn't give them any. I was just wondering if it's healthy for them to be eating lettuce every day, they usually have about 4-6 leaves between the two of them a day. It won't cause any health problems will it?

  1. Too much lettuce for rabbits is bad so it might not be such a good idea to give them lettuce every day. Try fresh fruit and veg each day and grass and flowers. Fruit like apples or apple peels and veg like carrots or carrot peals or cabbage or broccoli. Guinea pigs love broccoli!

  2. well i feed mine loads of fruit and vegetables every day they love lettuce they eat about 3 leaves each and mine are 5 years old in september so it cant be bad for them and they don't seem to be ill or overweight so yours should be ok

    hope this helped

  3. Don't worry about it, my 2 guinea-pigs eat allot too and are very fussy if i only give them dry food then they won't eat it, but and as long as their fur is soft and shiny then their perfectly healthy then u can keep feeding them the way do!

    Hope i helped x.

  4. Romaine is better than iceberg.  The problem is that lettuce just isn't very nourishing, and they may fill up on that instead of healthier foods.  Try substituting other greens or fruits; maybe dandelion greens if you have UNTREATED ones in your yard.
