my guineapig is a year old and his paw pads are slightly pink...i just took him out of his cage to run around and his was kind of holding up his back right foot as he walked aroun. he was acting totally normal though and hes still running around.

The paw that hes holding up is the only one without the pinkness

  1. Check for splinters.

  2. i'd see if you can find a vet to examine him- the foot could be injured or infected

  3. take him to the vet or call the vet. one time that happened to my dog, she is clumsy and it turned out she tripped. LOL

  4. it's quite possible that there's a small cut or an infection on the back paw. if the paw that your guinea pig is holding up is slightly more swollen than the others then it is probably infected.

this could also be a cut that's on top of the paw, but under the fur, so you can't see it. it could also be a problem with one of the nails on this paw.

because the guinea pig hasn't been showing any signs of pain, it's unlikely that the actual leg is injured. just to double check, lightly feel up and down the leg applying VERY slight pressure. if the guinea pig doesn't pull away, the problem is likely with the paw.

problems like these are generally pretty mild and aren't an emergency. don't bother paying the emergency fee to see a vet today, wait till tomorrow and call up the vet. see if you can come in later that day or even tuesday or wednesday.

don't worry your pet should be fine :) good luck!
