My gum hurts... Why does it hurt?

The gum between my two front teeth has been hurting for about two weeks, ever since I got back from a checkup with the ortho. And it's not the normal. It hurts when I floss. Like...Baddly.. it doesn't hurt much when I brush, just when I floss it... And It got a bit swollon..

has this happened to anyone who has had braces? Or do you think its serious and I should check it out?

  1. As you described it, it might be the beginnings of gingivitis.

You said that 'it doesn't hurt much when I brush', but there is still a bit of stinging feeling, I assume.

Having swollen gums, and pain when flossing/brushing could result into something much worse.  Usually, this would lead to bleeding of the gums.

Especially with braces.  Since braces create problems with cleaning your teeth, it is much easier for food/bacteria to hide.  Be careful when your brush and floss, take the time to make sure your teeth are entirely clean.

Yes, check it out with your dentist before it results into something more serious.
