My gums are growing over my braces? what do i do?

My gums are growing over my herps appliance in the back. It is very sore, and i tried brushing right there a lot for 3 nights and they are still covering a wire. It hurts alot! what should i do and has this happend to u?

  1. The same thing happend to me when i first got my bands on the back of my molars. It will go away after a while, so in the mean time use some oral gel to help with the soreness of your gums.

    Or you can call your dentist and ask him if this is normal or what you can do to help.

  2. This happends when you don't brush and floss properly.  Your gums become swollen due to the bacteria growing around your teeth. Then best thing to do is see your dentist. Also try rinsing your mouth twice a day with hydrogen peroxide (dilute it with water, one part water one part hydrogen peroxide).  

  3. Logically thinking, make an appointment to go and see your orthodontist as soon as possible.  She would be better to help you than anyone can from the computer.

  4. Call your ortho. and he should take them off, and  

  5. your gums will do this if you don't clean them well for a period of time.  The only thing you can do is have the appliance taken off and get the gums recontoured in the area.  Its just an overgrowth of gum tissue and is unlikely to get better on its own.  After the issue is resolved you can get your appliance back on again but this time you will need to keep it perfectly clean because its plaque buildup that causes this
