Question:

My guppy Fish and Tail Problems?

My guppy fish (female) has a swollen tail. At first she had a tail that was spread out and flapped when she swam. Now the entire length of the tail is swollen, the tail's tip is not fanned out there for she can't use it effectively to swim. She can swim barely by shaking her entire body from side to side. she hangs around the bottom of the tank almost lying on the surface, I know this is only a cheap fish but I would like to prevent her from dying, and stop this from possibly happening to my other fish.

  1. you might want to look into fin rot.  This is pretty common and you easily fix this by getting a medication.

  2. There are two possible cases for your guppy...

    1. She could have tail rot

    2. Most people mistake other fish in the tank biting at another's tail as tail rot. If you have other fish in the tank, it wouldn't be surprising if the cause of her swollen tail was from other fish biting at it. When fish bite at the tail, it can be very debilitating. Fantail guppy tails are the most commonly that get bitten by other fish. It's hard to miss such a pretty sight.

Good luck! :) Post more details for further questions.

    EDIT:

Here is a website that I request you go on. It has all types of infections/diseases found in guppies.
