yea im 14. 9th graderrr.

& i'm terrified of next week.

#1 i don't own a bathing suit.

#2 i don't know how to swim, or float...

----

im so scared because when our teacher told us next week we were going to swim. this girl was lying and said she didn't know how to swim, just to see if she could get out of it.

then everyone else started throwing in rude comments like. "what?! you live in southern california and you don't know how to swim?!" "HAHA YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO SWIM?! WTF,"

and other stuff. and it's funny because she was just lying to get out of it......

but i really don't know hot to swim..

i never learned how

and my mom was never mean enough to just

throw me in a pool and made me do the whole

"swim or drown!" thing.

so what should i do?

i might try getting a note?

but i think my teacher will probably just make me stay in the shallow end.. which will cause me more embarassment..

  1. I know how you feel, every week my class was made to swim and I made up excuse after excuse on how I could get out of it because I couldn't swim.  I think it is terribly unfair for people to force you to try and swim if it causes unnecessary embarrassment.  If a student is dyslexic they are not forced to read aloud because it is embarrassing.  This is not fair on you.  If you are keen to learn then take lessons at a local pool and you will only lear with those of a similar ability. This would be better for you.  For now I seriously advise you to speak privately with your gym teacher who should excuse you from the class and give you theory.  I see no reason why they would not help you.  Honestly the embarrassment is not nice.  I am speaking from experience.  Also get your mum on your side so if the teacher says no you can get them in trouble for exploiting you.

good luck if you do decide to take the lesson, but i genuinely dont think you should do it.

  2. tell your gym teacher, get a parent note or a doc note..or what i used to do..sign up for your counselor....and talk about classes or something

  3. Be honest with your gym teacher that you can't swim, then he would give some concessions like staying at the shallow end of the pool or use a kickboard or flotation device to move around.  Please understand that it is much better that you stay there to avoid drowning at the deep side of the pool.  It is better to be safe than sorry.

I would suggest that you purchase a swimsuit for this activity.  and encourage you to study swimming this summer.

Let's be realistic here, not everybody knows how to swim (even if you are near the ocean) and there is nothing wrong or being embarassed about it.  Hope this advise helps.

  4. That happened to a girl in my class. She couldn't swim. The teacher made her swim up and down with a flutterboard. I recomend getting out of it, but taking swimming lessons.
