what should i tell her? should i tell her to get one from the petstore, or just that she cant have one and to go somewhere else. after all, i have been doing all the work taking care of smore(mother hamster) to make shure she is healthy enough to take care of her remaining babies. please answer me with the answers proved or come up with your own. my friend is expecting a hamster even though i never said that she could have one from this litter. i plan to breed smore again so maybe the babies will be stronger and i will know more about babies than and the next litter might have more survivers!

  1. Is there a reason you don't want to give her one? Like you don't like her anymore or you don't think she'd take v.gd care of it? Or do you just love them both and want to keep them for yourself? (Hey! that's a good reason, too!).

Maybe since she is your friend, you can pick your fave one and let her have the other and since you plan to breed her again, you can keep what you want out of the next litter?

I would personally rather see it go to a friend. Because then you know where it is, who's taking care of it, you can still see it and play with it, and you know that it's being well cared for. Rather than let it go to a stranger.

  2. I think you should tell her that you just adore the small ones that smore has given birth to and have decided to keep them to yourselves. If your friend is really a friend, she would understand your emotions. You can ask her to pick one up at any of the good pet shops in your area.

However if you think you cannot take care of four syrian hamsters, they each need a cage, so that makes it four cages and more expense on food and bedding, then you can give one to her when the baby is 4 weeks old. It is up to you to decide.

Is this Smore's first litter? Don't make her have more than three litters in her lifetime. It is very bad for Smore's health. The ideal number of litters for a syrian hamster is 2, so you can mate her once more only.

Read a lot of books or on the internet about breeding and taking care of pregnant hamsters since if the mother is weak to take care of large litters, majority of the litter would die.

  3. If you don't want to give her one, try to remind her that there are lots of perfectly good pet store hamsters which won't find a home otherwise. Your hamsters have a home.

Also, be careful with hamster breeding. Hamsters get pregnant very easily (I've noticed from personal experience), and the litters can get really big. Just make sure you're not going to wind up with more than you can handle, and more than you can give homes to.
