My hamster's claws are really long, can you get them cut at a pet store?

When I hold my hamster, her claws poke at my skin, and it's anooying. So can I get them cut at a pet store, and if so, for how much?

Most pet stores (large chains) will not cut your hamsters nails, your best bet is contacting a local veterinarian that sees exotics and pocket pets.  At the clinic I work at we would charge tenish dollars for a nail trim on a pocket pet.  If you decide to try to cut the nails yourself be very careful to avoid cutting into the blood vessel that runs into the nail, if you do cut the vessel have some flour or cornstarch handy to dip the nail in to stop bleeding.

uhm it's not that expensive...but you can do it yourself...

if your hamster is comfortable with being held...gently take her paws...squeeze them very gently and the nail will pop out and you can clip them...

it's weird though...normally you don't need to clip them cuz hamsters bite them...

You can get them cut at a vet office for free. Personally, I perfer cutting them myself since my hamster is comfortable with me holding them. It's kind of tricky and you have to be extremely careful that you dont cut too close that you make them bleed but it gets the job done. I just use a normal nail clipper and hold my hamster down, usually giving it a treat to munch on while i take its paw and clip it. Its very important to keep your hamsters nails clipped, if the nails grow too long they will begin to curl into the paw and its extremely painful and almost impossible to walk.
