my hamster had her babies about two weeks ago, but they still are small and pink and fur-less. another of my hamsters has 2 wk old babies that basicly look like small hamsters so i think theres something wrong with the other litter. i was wondering if maybe the mother has something wrong with her milk or if i should try to get the mother of the healthy pups to adopt the underdeveloped ones?? i just want to do whatever i can so they make it through...

  1. Do nothing. If you touch the babies the mother is likely to eat her babies. You should leave mom and the babies alone for the first 3 weeks.

  2. Thats a tough one.  I did a little bit of research on it and found very little.  I did find that some develop slower then others the last paragraph on this site was the best info I could find that talked about hamsters developing slower and it seems like its no worry and just leave them be.

so if they are alive and she is taking care of them just leave it.  I haven't heard good things about hamsters adopting other hamsters babies so I would be afraid of that.

  3. flush them down the toliet

  4. from what i know about hamsters i highly doubt that one mother would care for the other's babies, she would probably see them as a threat to her own babies and eat them.  if you are concerned about their nutrition, you could try dipping some bread in milk and putting it in the cage for them to eat.  but whatever you do, don't touch the babies.  they'll smell like humans and the mother will eat them because she thinks they are intruders.

  5. One of my hampster had babies a few years ago. Basically, dont do anything...I id some research a fewyears ago and the mother will handle everything. My hampster babies didnt get big, open their eyes, and grow hair until a few weeks after birth. Some of the babies wont make it. the mother eats some, and some get lost in the shavings, nothing you can do. Just sit backa nd watch the mother go crazy when they get bigger

  6. I think it's great that you want to help and all but there mother is the only ones who can take care of them. Some hamsters grow late and others well... you know. Whatever you do DO NOT separate them unless you are taking them to a vet. The mother will get freaked and if the mother needs to do something for them she can't.
