My hamster bit me? Not hard but just curious??

Question

Is she scared and i got her 2 days ago i saw that you should talk to them i am doing that i do also lay my hand in there and let her sniff and get used to it..but now im kinda scared to hold her!? what else should i do??? and how long should i wait!?

If you woke her up, you probably startled her, and that's their natural defense is to bite.  

Before you try to hold her again, make sure you wash your hands (if you smell yummy, she will bite).  

For one, if you are scared of them, they will know it, and will "buffalo" you into being scared of them all the time (like, acting like they will bite, when they won't).  Forget about her biting you and just hold her, the more you hold her the more she'll get used to you and she will be more relaxed.  

If you are using gloves, STOP using them, hamsters are terrified of gloves, plus they will bite harder to get their point across.  

I suggest you don't try to hold her until she wakes up on her own, if you wake her up then she'll be grouchy.  And sometimes, females will be more apt to bite because they go into heat every 4 days.  

Try to give her treats and let her know that you're not all bad and you want to be friends.  Just relax and don't let her see you are afraid of her, and she'll come around.

It's just their way of defense, its natural for them to bite. Just keep letting the hamster get familiar with your scent and try hand feeding, its a savior and works like a charm. I know its kinda scary to want to handle them after they bite, but dont let that stop you. Once you're able to cup your hamster in your hand they're tottally cool with it. Keep trying everyday. You dont want your hamster to never get handled cause then you get a mean nasty hamster that will attack you everytime you put your hand in there.

I've had several hamsters, and I had one male one who bit me many times when I'd try to hold him.  He'd run all around the cage to get away and bite like crazy, he may have drawn blood once.

However, once I got over my hurt that he didn't like me...I kept persisting with trying to hold him and show him that I wasn't going to hurt him.  In the end, I was able to hold him with ease, and he no longer bit me.

Just be gentle so your hamster knows you won't hurt it, and be patient because it can take them a little bit to get used to you, but it will.

when i first got my hamster i was a bit afraid to hold her.

god, i was like only 10 and i got her as a valentines gift from my mom and i was trying to hld her and she was so bony and squirmy. then she got use to me and let me hold her when ever i wanted to..

just give it time to get  use to you. eventually it will be more comfortable with you

i have a hampster and she only bit me once but she was just sleeping and she was trying to make a bed in my shirt and bit it to pull it over her but i think you only scared her..i mean would you like to be this little animal and get taken from your home to another home and be picked up, would you be scared that the person was going to hurt you so you bit them to save yourself???this is probably just a one time thing so dont show her/him that you are scared when you allow him/her to sniff you because it will pick up on you being scared and will be scared too...she/he will get better around you but it just needs to get used to her new house and stuff like that so just be patient ok...btw congrats on getting a hammy...they are sooooo adorable and sweet...good luck!!!if you have any other ?'s about hampsters you can e-mail me...kk...:)

their ONLY real defense is their two front teeth....try not to fold your finger over toward them, at least not just yet........Make sure your fingers do not smell like any food or they will mistake it for such........

Keep handling them (with care) and watch their body language.....the more they understand you are not going to hurt them, the more comfortable they will be with being handled

my gunie pig bites but only if yu put yur hand n frount of him or he ghets angry with me.......dont b scared yu b scared than yur hamster will b scared ..........pick her uhp slowly and dont be rough with her/him put her/him close to yur chest and she/he will be calm
