Hi, my hamster died a week ago. He was a dwarf hamster. It was a random death but I was wondering if you guys could help me figure out why.

So, he was about 7 months old. His name was Nemo. He might of ate a bad peice of broccoli. But he might of also been over-fed. Is that possible?

Thanks

  1. First of all, I'm sorry for what happened. Second, if you knew it was a bad piece of broccoli, maybe you shouldn't have fed it, if you don't think it smelled bad then it wasn't poisoning. Overfeeding is a causes death over a long period of time. Unless you've fed it an atrocious amount within 7 months, I don't think it was the cause. Both are easily reasons.

Also check, was it a sufficient cage? Was he handled well? Did he get out much?

    I hope I helped!

  2. Overfeeding is rare if the pet is kept active, I would think the brocolli would have been fine. I wonder if when you got him you actually were told the wrong age? Also it is quite possible for animals to suddenly die from undiagnosed problems with their organs or other ailments. Without a vet doing an autopsy I doubt if you will ever know. I am sorry he died and hope you will not fret too much.

  6. dwarfs only live a year or a year and a half.  There are way too many illnesses that can kill these small critters.  I have had 5 syrians over 2 years. 1 is still alive.
