One of my two hamsters escaped yesterday night, how can I find it? Any tips?

I am pretty sure it's still in the house but I don't know where. Information on where they like to sleep/hide would be nice.

  1. Here's How:

       1. Start your search near the cage and go from there.

       2. Check behind furniture along the baseboards.

       3. Check under the furniture.

       4. Check inside cabinets, drawers, shelves and bookcases. Check behind, in, and under any items in these places.

       5. Remove cushions from couches and chairs, and check down the sides and back of the furniture.

       6. Check the underside of furniture and beds for any holes through which a creature could climb inside the furniture/bed.

       7. Check inside any boxes you have around the house, including tissue boxes.

       8. Look inside any backpacks, purses, or other bags.

       9. Look in boots and shoes, or any other small, dark hiding places you can think of.

      10. Check the undersides and backs of appliances for holes your pet could have climbed into.

      11. Make sure cage is left open, and place favorite treat or food around and in cage.

      12. Place foil around the room (or crinkly plastic) in potential hiding places so you can hear your pet moving around.

      13. Sprinkle some flour on the floor in areas where you suspect your pet might be hiding - you might get a set of footprints to help you.

Another method is to set a "trap" - get a fairly deep bucket, put lots of bedding in the bottom and then put in some favorite treats or food. Then, make a ramp to the bucket's edge with a piece of wood, which will allow the hamster to climb up and likely fall into the bucket, but the hamster is unable to climb up the smooth sides of the bucket to get back out. The layer of bedding in the bucket has to be generous to allow a soft landing, though. Remember, it is a good idea to make sure the cage is readily accessible and kept stocked with food and water while the hamster is out - the hamster can visit the cage to stay nourished that way (and if he/she does so it will likely be at night, so keep an eye on the cage then).

  2. Put cheese out in front of their cage.  Put a cup of water out or a dish preferrably of water and their food out for them.  They may go after the cheese.  Karen H

  3. I once found my hamster on the first floor when she lived on the second floor and I found her in the broiler part of the oven.  Hamsters like dark places that they can hide. A well packed closet floor is also a popular spot.  They also like to go in the walls of the house when they escape.  Good Luck!  Check all shoes too mine once hid in a shoe.  I lost mine all the time.  She was good at getting out no matter what I did.

You will need it they are good at hiding!

  4. Check in the freezer!there was this thing on the news where somehow this tiny hamster made it into the fridge and he still lived!

  5. my hamster escapes aaaaaall the time!! what i do is get a bucket and a board. first you but the board onto the bucket and make it like a ramp. in the bottom of the bucket put lots of food. also put food up the ramp to attract it. my hamster walks up the ramp ( eating the food ) and the sees the food in the bucket and drops into the bucket. my hamster cannot get out and stays there till morning untill i get it out and put it back in it's cage!

    hope this helps

  6. under the couch and in tight places. just leave out their favorite food and they will eventually come out and eat.

  7. Hi, you could try putting down a tasty treat, like cheese in every room when the cheese disapears that will probily be the room he/she is in. hope this helps! x

  8. Anywhere dark, and narrow they like to hang out in crammed places it seems. When I was little my hamster escaped and i put food out on the floor where I thought he might hang out.  I ended up catching him that way.  Recently my hamster has escaped and I found him behind the toilet.

  9. Keep looking in closets and places where they can fit. Or even put their cage on the ground and in the night they will crawl in it. (keep door opened to cage). And in the morning they will be asleep in the cage. Get on the ground and put your ear on the ground and listen. Thats how I found mine * it was behind the fridge LOL*

  10. My hamster escaped many times but i always found it..................................... hamsters like to hide in  places like a carpeted area. and i usually found them in a corner

  11. the best way is to make the house silent and isten,

make sure he cant gt under any units or your oven or up the back of the fride or freezer or u got problems, also, if you have washing lying about pick it up, check it for hammy and then put it out the way, or you might wash him,

if he lives in your bedroom, pull out your bottom drawer, as drawers have gaps at th back, they can get under.

    look for poos.

    put food out,

generaly being quiet you can hear them scuttling about.

  12. put food and water down

  13. they can hide anywhere...you might want to put some food out for them in like the middle of the floor...of even buy no kill traps

  14. get a cat  lol.  not really. i would check under/inside the couch, behind entertainment center dark places like that

  15. Hey imreally sorry about your hamster!

    well here's what to do,

first get lots of food and put it around the area where you last saw him/her.

get as many friends and tell them to go into different areas of the house tell them to bring food and place it there then you check any dangerous place where could get hurt/lost/trapeed in a bad way!

then work your way up to the cage on your side of the house and the other people do the same on there side so u cover every part of the house!

    hope it helps :)
