Last night I got my new male Long Hair Syrian Hamster, Kirby. This morning he was no where to be found in his cage. After 3 hours of searching, I found him in one of my draws with allllllll of my shirts chewed up! =/ We now have him an an aquarium tank.

Anyway, the drop he must have fallen from was about 4 feet high. He seams ok, but how do I make sure?

  1. he is ok .believe me they are always doing this

  2. If he's breathing eating, drinking and moving....he's fine

  3. Well you could observe his behavior and see if it is normal for him.

  4. yeah he is fine (hope)

  5. I am sure he is fine.  I have had my share of hamster and gerbil accidents where they have fallen a few feet.  I think I was more scared than my hamster or gerbil was.

When I first got my Syrian he first escaped in my car on the way home.  It took an hour to catch him.  He even crawled in the center console of my car!  I was so worried he hurt himself in the car or ate something he shouldn't have but he was fine.  Hence he was named Trouble!

When I got Trouble home he was a little nervous and when I was holding him he jumped, bounced off my shoulder, and onto the floor.  I was really scared that he was hurt so I kept a close eye on him.  He moved a bit slow for a little bit but he was fine.

If he moves around normally, is eating and drinking normally, and seems to run fine on his wheel I would not worry about him.  I'm sorry he chewed up your shirts.  He must have thought he found the ultimate nest!

  6. Well, um, not to be pessimistic or anything, but the clothes he ate must have had been cleaned with laundry detergent which could possibly be poison. I would definitely check with the vet about it.

  7. im sure he is fine....their bones are flexible anyway,  so i wouldnt worry about the fall.  The only way to really check him  is to just watch him and see how he behaves.  he may be a little weird for a while,  but i wouldnt worry about it.

  8. Take him to a small animal vet.
