I am surprised that Stormy let me pick her up because yesterday she bit me for the first time, am I making progress? What do I do now?

  1. That's wonderful! I'm getting a new hamster sometime this week, and it will be a 4 week old baby, so I need some help in this area too, as I need to tame it.

You're making good progress, here's a trick to get both to let you pick them up:

Put a seed, such as a pumpkin or sunflower seed, or a treat, in the palm of your hand. (Make sure your hands are 'squeaky' clean!) Then, gently lower your hand into the cage. Now, this isn't the best way, because you MAY get bitten. But you only get bitten if you didn't wash your hands well. So don't worry about that. Do it regularly. The hamsters will start to sniff your hand (don't move!) If then climb onto your hand, and take the treat, keep doing it until they seem tamer and more comfortable. Now, when they are tamer (which takes at least a few days to succeed in), try to hold them. Good luck! ^-^

  2. man i have had my hamster for like 20 minutes and she has already let me pick her up. just play with her and talk to her. dont do anything to make her lose trust in you...

  3. To get them used to your smell, take a small cloth and hold it for a while (or rub it on your skin).  Then, leave it in their cage.  They will eventually get used to your scent.  You could put a treat in the palm of your hand and let them climb on your hand to get it.  Make sure to pick them up with your palm open.  If you close your hands around a hamster, it sometimes resembles a claw and scares them.  You're doing great.  Make sure to give it more time.

  4. you play with your hamster and have fun with her, she trusts you now and thats great! dont do anything that will lose the trust, do not drop her, or throw her. or scare her when you pick her up. about the other one just keep trying and eventually you should be able to hold her. just know that some hamsters never seem to warm up to humans, and thats perfectly fine.hamsters dont need us and if you can never hold her, still give her some exercise outside the cage with her hamster buddy

  5. Talk to them

  6. Its a hamster.

    Not a cat.

    You don't pick it up.

    You watch it.

  7. That's great that Stormy let you pick her up, keep picking her up and keep interacting with her, and talk to her in a really gentle slow voice, be very gentle with her so her trust for you will get larger. Let her eats out of your hand, and climb all over you, and let her feel secure, pet her gently, and she will realize that if she goes onto your hand it's fun, and it's a treat.

For Biscuit, put your hand in the cage on a regular basis if you don't already so she will start to feel more trustful and secure around you. Remember to not grab her out of the cage from above when you do pick her up because this simulates a bird(predator) coming down to swoop her up, so instead if your not already when you pick her up scoop her up from the ground in a cupped hand really gently, because you don't want to stress her by picking her up to gently, and don't force her, it's only been five days, just hang in there eventually she will gain your trust and will realize that being out of the cage is fun. She will also notice that Stormy trusts you, and it might make Biscuit notice and feel more comfortable and motivated. Of course they will be skeptical at first, you just have to get them to enjoy your presence, and they will soon realize that you are a source of happiness and food :)

Ummm but yeah, you don't have them both in the same cage do you?

Because when they mature they will rip each other to bits with no mercy and have a battle to the death.
