He is a long-haired syrian hamster. i don't think it's his glands because its not on his hips, but on his back, right behind his head. Except for the spot getting slowly larger, he is acting perfectly fine.

Is he sick? What is wrong with him?

  1. sry not sure?

  2. He's most likely sick. The bald black spot could be skin cancer. That's what mine had and he was balding and had two black spots.

I would take him to the vet just to make sure, but I think he's sick. Mine had the same symptoms and was acting fine for quite awhile and then suddenly got worse. He lost most his fur and couldn't eat.

Take him to the vet just to be sure.

Best Wishes, and I'm sorry if he is sick.

  3. Hamsters can get skin spots, just like humans. As long as these spots are not showing signs of infection (redness, swelling and/or drainage), there is nothing to worry about. Sometimes the hair around these spots will come out, but it should eventually grow back.

However if you notice that the black spot is increasing in size, then it is much more worrying since it can indicate a type of cancer called melanotic tumour. If you feel the spot is getting bigger, I would advise you to have it checked out by a vet for opinion.

If it is confirmed to be a tumour, please be ready for the truth that such tumours cannot be cured. In that case, my personal advice to you (though it might sound hard, trust me, it is from my own experience) would be to let the hamster live happy for the rest of his life and if the tumour appears to cause the hamster pain, or grows so large that the hamster finds it difficult to move, it is kinder to let your vet put the hamster to sleep.

  4. Your hamster may have mites, take him to the vet for proper treatment.

  5. i remember having hamsters.

well .. unfortunatly it sounds like a type of skin cancer. I may be wrong though. i remember one of my hamsters having it before, and the lump slowly got darker into a more purpleish color.

sadly, there's really nothing you can do though.
