  1. There are two things I would like to say;

    One; I just acquired three robo dwarf hamsters recently, and I was sure one of them (Cyanide) had a bald spot on her butt, and I was ready to call every vet in town. I've had hamsters who've gotten sick and had bald spots before, so I know it can be a serious. Well, after further inspecting her, I realized that it had only been a trick of light; the fur around her rear is a softer sandy brown than the rest of her body, and often, when I look at her, I think there's a bald spot. So, this may be the case.

    If not it could quite possibly be a reaction to something in the cage; perhaps the bedding you have is reacting badly to the hamster's skin, if you believe this is the case, I highly suggest you get a new type of bedding. Also, if it is in a cage with other hamsters, the other hamsters could be irritating him; I once had a very aggressive hamster that enjoyed nibbling on the rear of another, and because of this, the fur began to thin and fall out from the agitation. If this is the case, give him a seperate cage from the other hamsters. Last but not least, it could be the food you are giving your hamster. I know its not very common, but some people give hamsters bird food as a supplement for hamster food (if they are out of hamster food, bird food is actually the next best thing). Well, bird food doesn't contain any corn, because it is tough for the birds to eat. Unfortunately, hamsters need corn in their diets; if you continue feeding your hamster bird food (or hamster food that doesn't have corn in it) then its fur will ultimately begin falling out, and later on, probably cause more problems.

    If none of these are the case, I urge you to call a vet in the morning; it isn't so serious that the hamster will die over night, but it could be potentially life threatening (could be tumors).

    Hope this helps ;P

  2. this is serious

    this is the beginning of tumors.

    my sister's hamster was balded by the butt and the vet said that is was just hormones.  about a week later she started getting tumors on her belly, head, and butt.  we had the tumors tested and they were cancerous.  we had to put her to sleep a few weeks ago, take him to the vet, don't let yours end up like whiskers did!!

    some symptoms of tumors are not walking properly, baldness around the butt and sleeping a lot and not being active

    contact the vet as soon as possible
