Question:

My hamster has blood around her bump? Please help urgently!?

My little hamster is turning 2 this December and she has developed a lump which I think may be an absess. It's pretty small, and is just under her left front paw. She's had it for a few days and we've been monitoring it. But this morning when I saw her awake drinking water, I noticed around her bumpy lump some blood. It was dry but I've got more worried. Are there any good vets in the Hemel Hempstead area? The closest one to us is Barton Lodge. Anyone know this vet? Are they good with small animals? Also, how much roughly would it cost to get my sweet little bundle of fur better? It's about £30 for a check-up. I think the vet would have to do something to the lump and then give her antibiotics or something? Also, I know this sounds really negative, but if she can't be treated how much would it cost to have her...put down? =( I just want to know incase it does have to happen.

Please answer and give me advice!

  1. maybe it came out the  bump

  2. Hamsters are prone to tumours! Did you take her to the vet when you noticed the lump?

I'm really sorry to tell you this but one the lump or tumour starts to bleed it means that it may become or already is cancerous!

I feel really bad having to tell you this but you can get an operation for them but many hamsters dont wake up once they have been put under anaesthetic so you may have to put her down!

But really just take her to th vet as maybe she could of just scratched the bump! It depends on how dark the blood is! If its pretty dark then take her ASAP!

  3. This is probably caused by her standing on something. Its nothing to worry about as this has happend to my hamsters too, I thorght i had done something wrong, but it turns out that she stood on a sharp piece of sawdust. I would get it checked by a vet is case of infection, but overall your hamster will be fine. The blood is due to it being on her paw and she walks on it alot. No dont worry she wont need to be put down. All the vet will do is inject her with numbing cream and simply pop the blister and cover he foot with something protective. the protective lining will evencully dissolve. Problem solved :) Hope your hamster Gets well soon.
