Question:

My hamster has diarrhea?

I know alot of people will say its wet tail but I heard Dwarf hamsters don't get them.

"Technically no, since the bacteria that causes wet tail isn't found in dwarfs. "

So my dwarf hamster has horrible diarrhea, smells bad, and all that.

She still loves eating though, she attacks the food bowl everyday and is kinda fat from over eating (i had to cut down the food she eats everyday)

I dont know what her problem is exactly. I gave her green lettuce (i heard that causes diarrhea) but that was like a month ago and haven't given her any green food.

Would vegetable oil cause diarrhea? I put some on the wheel so it would go around better but she started l*****g that area of the wheel. I stopped oiling that since like 3 weeks ago also.

She always pees/poops (diarrhea) all over her wheel. Her wheel's closed kind so her p**p just gets smeared all over it until I clean it everyday. (how do other people deal with this also?)

I would by dri-tail or something but not in US atm...

  1. She has some imbalance of bacteria in her intestine.that is why she has the diarrhea.what I would do is buy something called  acidophilus,or probiotics or friendly bacteria or Lactobacillus -acidophilus(these are all names for the same thing I don't know what it's called in your country) or buy some pro-biotic Dannon yogurt.I would open up a capsule of the powdered acidophilus and put 1/4 to 1/2 a capsule in her drinking water.Or if she will eat it, a teaspoon of yogurt in a little plate in her cage.this will purify her intestine and add som beneficial bacteria. You can do this every day in the beginning and every few days afterwards to keep her intestines clean.this should help. Also, you might want to buy a better quality hamster food for her or at least change the brand and try another.

  2. You can try changeing the food brand. This may help stop it

  3. Dwarf hamsters CAN get wet-tail. I saw a few with it at a kind of run-down pet store before.

It shouldn't be a food allergy because you stopped feeding her the unhealthy things.

However, you could try switching her regular diet brand and seeing if that helps.

  4. I think that your hamster is okay. She just has a food allergy. Try feeding her allergen free hamster food. I hope she gets better!

  5. Get rasberry leaves. They are suppose to help other than that no fresh foods until this problem has stoppped. Also give her fresh water more often twice a day because she may be dehydrated. This should help. Good luck!

  6. (Horrible example...but) Humans have diarrhea sometimes. It doesn't mean they are sick. It could be a specific type of fruit or veggie you gave her.
