  1. Relax, your hamster is not crazy, she is just a very hyperactive hamster.Hyperactive hamsters require a lot of activities outside the cage to keep them occupied since they get bored of their cages very fast. And also she is not trying to "escape", she wants to get out of the cage and enjoy herself with more variety of activities.Creativity is the key to making them play actively everyday and keep them happy.

    Some simple tricks are -

Spread her food and hide treats in her bedding instead of putting food in a food dish. This would make her burrow and search for food instead of eating mechanically from her food dish.

Each time you arrange the cage after cleaning, arrange things differently from the last time. This would make it more interesting for your hamster to look around and rediscover things in the cage again and make her more active.

Give her a variety of toys to play with. By toys, I do not mean the expensive ones you get in pet shops. Your hammy would be equally or more happy with inane things like empty toilet toll tubes, toothpaste cartons with flaps cut off or even hollowed out plastic balls (non toxic plastic should be used). I even remove the base of Starbucks coffee cups to make simple tunnels for my hamsters.

Make a hamster proof room area where she can roam around freely with no danger of escaping. I use the bath tub in my house - dry it out completely, plug the drain hole and make her roam in the tub. To make it even more interesting, put some toys and maybe a stand alone exercise wheel there and leave her there for 20 minutes and watch her have fun.It is also a good way to interact and play with her too.

Put her in her hamster ball for three durations of 20 minutes every day to make her more happy that she has been out of her cage.

Remember variety is the key to a healthy and active hamster.

  2. yeah, i have had my hamster for about a year and sometimes it seems like she wants to escape.

but no need to worrry, sometimes hamsters just get a little crazy!!

maybe try holding her more and spending time with her.

and she prolley bites at the cage right? welll that fine, cause i learned that hamsters are just big attention hogs. shes fine, im sure she has a great home..

  3. Is she just biting at her cage?

    My hamster does that

In fact, every hamster I've had has done that

You shouldn't get another hamster and put them in the same cage

There's a good chance they'll fight and hurt one another

And if you give her plenty of attention, she shouldn't need and other company

  4. she is fine but you can buy a ball for her to run in  it will give her exercise and fun.

  5. dont by a nothor ham she could get hurt

  6. Most small animals are like that. They take time to adjust to there surroundings, so if you just got her then that is normal. If you've had her for a while she may be bored. Usually, unless you get the hamster with another hamster, there just going to bully each other. Or if you get a male hamster, your going to find yourself with more then your going to want. In general, hamsters aren't the friendliest of animals. I used to work in a couple pet stores, an exotic pet store, petsmart, and petco. Every hamster I've ever messed with has always been like that. Real skittish, and wanting out of the cage.

Try little treats, and maybe some things like more tunnels to crawl through!

    Hope that helps.

  7. try get a bigger cage the she might not want ot it may just be that she hasnt got enough room

  8. You could get her a tube maze to run around in.

    Something like this -> http://www.petcentreonline.co.uk/ecommer...

  9.   Trust me, all hamsters are like that.  They will chew and scratch.  It is all instincts.

Your hamster does not need a friend.  Hamsters are solitary animals and are perfectly happy by themselves.  If they do live with another hamster, it could be deadly. [with the exception of dwarfs who must be the same s*x and brought up together from the same litter].

If you are that concerned I have two theroys that can minimize the problem.

    1) You can always get your hamster a chew toy [I didn't see that in the list above].  Most hamsters love them.

    2) Maybe it still isn't enough space for your hamster.  My hamster, Bubba, had a Crittertrail 3.  He escaped three times!  And chewed constantly.  I then got a crittertrail mini [to pick up another hamster] and decided to attatch it to his cage to see if his actions could be minimized.  Still not that much of a difference.  Then for Christmas I got him a CritterTrail X [I think that is what it was called].  He seemed to slow down in biting and has not excaped since.

    I REALLY hope this helps!
