My hamster is really smart?

Her name is Yumi, she's a chinese dwarf hamster, and she's very cute.

You can say she's like a mini hamtaro, lol.

She keeps her cage clean, excersize, and licks my finger. Never bit me.

Sometimes I let her out on the bed so she can has some freedom. But Yumi never attempt to run away. In fact, after 30 mins or so, she jumps back to her cage by herself.

First, i got a little worried that she'll pee on the bed, but she does that once she's inside her cage, which i find it pretty neat. And sometimes sleeps on a pillow.

Just curious, is this normal behavior for this specific breed? She's my first hammie.

  1. very interesting i have never heard of that kind of behavior in hamsters,i have two robo dwarf hamsters(males)and they dont act like that.

  2. My hamster does the same thing! I let her on my bed, she never bites me. I don't know if my hamster wants to run away or not. I have a teddy bear hamster so I don't really know if that's normal.

  3. Sounds like you got lucky like I did :)

My Syrian acts very similarly. Seems to act like a true pet, ya know? Knows me, responds to me, doesnt run away, licks my fingers (even if I've eaten food!), never potties outside.

I think it's because hamsters have been domesticated for a good while now. Maybe they're evolving slightly and are becoming more proper pets? Mine and yours dont seem to have that "prey" mentality like some others do.

Our maybe its a reincarnation of a former pet, or even relative?

Who knows.... but you're lucky, enjoy it :)

  4. Never heard of that before.

    All hampsters are different.

Maybe yours is just special or is a tamed breed

  5. well each hamster is different

  6. lol i wish mine did that :D
